PROGRAM
“Creating Successful Camp Communities -
Top Tips and Skills for All Staff”
Stuart C. Jones, M.A., Owner/Director, Outpost Summer Camps
What is summer camp more than bringing together children and counselors and creating a new community "from scratch" each season? This annual responsibility requires that the people in charge - YOU - do it intentionally, skillfully and in the best interests of everyone involved. This exciting keynote session will both inspire you and provide you with skills to get off to a terrific start and see the benefits of that start all summer long! Stuart is the owner/director of Outpost Summer Camps, Inc. in San Diego, California. He is an American Camp Association trained director, frequent speaker, and past member of the ACA, Southern California/Hawaii Board. Stuart worked at Tom Sawyer Camps in Pasadena for 13 years, during which time he co-directed a social skills program called “BLAST’ designed for children with ADHD or autism who were struggling to succeed in school, after-school programs, or other environments. In 2002 Stuart co-founded Outpost Summer Camps. Stuart is a consultant for the Poway Unified School District (PUSD), teaches parenting classes with a particular emphasis on boys and fathers, and trains supervisory teams at the district’s 23 elementary schools in child development and management techniques for their Extended Student Services (ESS) program. He also serves as program evaluator for PUSD’s Even Start Family Literacy program. He formerly worked for Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego as a senior research specialist, reporting on children’s health care outcomes for First 5 San Diego. Stuart is a graduate of UC San Diego, and holds a Master’s Degree in developmental psychology from California State University at Los Angeles.
